Letter of Intent for Holding
"8th Biennial Meeting of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry"

As is said "bright eye and white teeth" from the ancient time, health and beautifulness of teeth and mouth are the symbol of beauty of health arising out of the body and mind of people, and the "white teeth, bright teeth" verily represent the quality of human life. "Dental Aesthetics" is the science to pursue the dental aspects for the people who seek for the mental and physical health as well as the true happiness, and the "Aesthetic Dentistry" is the practical science to pursue the clinical aspects. Aesthetic therapy should not be those that are merely garnished by physical beauty or coloration beauty but it should have adequate functions and provide satisfactions to people and also to persons in medical practice.
As you are aware of, Quality of Life (QOL) is required in the advanced countries including Japan, and the quality is now called for to the medical and dental treatment in addition to the quantitative provision. The dentistry has now become unable to meet such high requirements of the society only by symptomatic and makeshift treatment such as to remove the pain or enable the mastication. In this context, an approach has been introduced to maintain and promote the health of teeth and mouth while preventing or controlling the diseases as much as possible by returning to the original point of medical care.
Under such social circumstances, it is not overstating that it is the aesthetic dentistry that is verily required in the area of dentistry at present. This area is by no means scientific area but expands over wide scope including total areas of dentistry as well as neighboring areas of other sciences.
The academic society of dental aesthetics of Japan has a belief that it has always made substantial contribution in this area as a leader of dental aesthetics of Asian countries. It played a central role in the establishment of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry in 1990 as one of the inauguration members, and in 1994, 3rd Meeting of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry was held together with 5th Meeting of Japan Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry at Kagoshima.
In hosting the meeting of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, I strongly hope the success of meeting and thereby to contribute to the health and true happiness of people in Japan and Asian countries.
I would ask the quarters concerned to understand the purport of the dental aesthetics and success of this meeting, and provide us with the special cooperation for the success of this meeting.
