Accreditation to Dentists

Japan Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (JAED), an organization of approximately 3,600 members, proves excellent credential as a dentist in esthetic dentistry.

This system started in 1996 in order to "maintain the high-level esthetic dentistry and improve it with the help of dentists with expertise in esthetic dentistry as well as clinical techniques and experience, thereby contributing to the preservation of health and welfare of the nation."

The accredited dentists are to be required to have “sophisticated medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis and treatments in the field of esthetic dentistry, as well as the capability to give appropriate advice to other dental practitioners upon request."

The accreditation and examination process are administered by the Accreditation Committee of JAED.

Achieving accredited status from JAED requires dedication to continuing education, careful adherence to the protocols and exceptional clinical case reports for five-year or older members, or three-year or older members credentialed by the other specialized and/or authorized organizations of Japanese Association for Dental Science, who have to make case presentations and to pass the oral examination.

The accredited dentists are to renew their qualifications every five years through dedication to continuing education such as attendance at the Congress and presentations of papers.

At the end of March 2013, 139 members had been registered as accredited dentists.
